Spring Clean to Reduce Allergies - Five Tips

The Culprit

The passage of winter leaves behind a high concentration of allergens in the home. Months of people and pets spending more time indoors, combined with the accumulation of dust mites, mold, pet dander, and pollen, creates particularly poor inside air quality. Now is the perfect time to engage in some appropriately timed spring cleaning in order to eliminate home allergens.

Take Action

Five tips to reduce allergens:

1. Temperature and humidity. Hot, humid houses are breeding grounds for dust mites and mold. Maintain temperature at 70 F and keep relative humidity no higher than 50 percent. Clean or replace small particle filters in central heating and cooling systems and in air conditioners at least once a month.
2. Dust mites. Encase bedding in allergen impermeable covers and wash bi-weekly in hot water.
3. Mold and Pollen. Close doors and windows during warm weather and use air conditioning and dehumidifiers.
4. Weekly cleaning routine. Damp-mop wood or linoleum flooring and vacuum carpeting. Use a vacuum cleaner with a small-particle or a high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter. Use a damp cloth to clean other surfaces, including the tops of doors, windowsills and window frames. Refrain from using feather dusters. Change or clean heating and cooling system filters once a month.
5. Cigarettes. Prohibit the use of cigarettes inside your home.

Nashville BrightHouse Press Release

Dreaming of a Green Christmas?  Luxury Green Home Cleaning Service Can Spruce Up Your Home for the Holidays and New Year

NASHVILLE, TN – Dec. 25 – When Alison Adkins' daughter developed asthma, one of the first problems she attacked was ridding her home of excess dust, allergens, and any harsh chemicals that left residue. She switched her household over to non-bleach, non-chlorine "green" products and became so meticulous in her cleaning efforts that a friend suggested she offer a cleaning and greening tune-up to others in the Nashville area where she lives.

BrightHouse Luxury Green Home Cleaning Service (http://www.nashvillebrighthouse.com) debuted in September of this year. And, despite a down economy, the company has since tripled its bookings. In addition to complete cleaning with environmentally neutral cleaning products, BrightHouse provides five-star turn-down service with complimentary organic chocolates, tea, and the homeowner's choice of jasmine, lavender or lemongrass mist aromatherapy.

"My switch to green cleaning was a medical necessity," said Adkins. "However, my desire to start an environmentally friendly business was inspired by friends and the initiatives Nashville has taken to become a greener municipality."

Adkins' husband, who previously worked as the general manager of a 30,000 square foot Nashville estate, helped establish BrightHouse's cleaning routine and luxury amenity offerings.

Part of serving a luxury clientele includes hiring the best staffers. "The key to our success is communication and trust. All our housekeepers are insured, full-time staffers. We take extra care to match the housekeeper to the home," said Mrs. Adkins. "Each housekeeper gets to know the home and cleaning routines, which can be customized to the client's lifestyle. Once a month, a manager inspects the home (unannounced) to make sure the upkeep meets BrightHouse's quality control standards."

For a luxury home cleaning service that's also committed to the environment, BrightHouse fees are surprisingly affordable. The company's most popular package is for a bi-weekly visit and costs $135. The fee is based on a 3500 sq. ft. home and includes a complete cleaning routine. Unlike other services, BrightHouse doesn't charge for variables such as the number of bathrooms or pets.

"We spend as much time as the client needs for a thorough, 'high to low' cleaning, which includes cleaning places the client can't see," said Adkins. "And we're flexible. If the customer needs to incorporate extra cleaning or laundry into their visits it's not a problem at all."

BrightHouse uses only natural, biodegradable, non-toxic, child and animal friendly solutions. Surfaces are wiped using micro-fiber products instead of paper towels. Only vacuums equipped with 5-stage HEPA filtration are used so air is cleaned as housekeeper's vacuum.
